The highlighted term denotes the adverse reaction/event that was the primary reason for the specified primary reporter to report the case. If this was not explicitly provided by the primary reporter, it should not be considered as the primary (highlighted) adverse reaction/event. This data element should only be entered when the medical opinion entered in E.i.1 corresponds to the reason the reporter contacted the sender. For example, this data element can be used by the reporter to indicate a specific confirmed diagnosis. If the reporter described an "influenza-like illness" with "fever, chills, sneezing, myalgia, headache", "influenza-like illness" could be considered as the primary adverse reaction/event. When only one adverse reaction is mentioned in a case report, this event can be considered as highlighted by the reporter. (The seriousness of the case is assumed to be provided by the reporter; otherwise, the sender may assess it.)
