This data element is used to enter the latest outcome of the adverse reaction/event at the time of reporting. For irreversible congenital anomalies, "not recovered/not resolved" should be selected. For other irreversible medical conditions, "recovered/resolved with sequelae" should be selected. "Fatal" should be selected when the death is possibly related to the adverse reaction/event. Since it is difficult to distinguish between "the adverse reaction/event caused the death" and "the adverse reaction/event clearly contributed to the death", both are combined into a single selection. If both the reporter and the sender consider the adverse reaction/event to be unrelated, this data element should not be selected as "fatal", and the death should be reported in section D.9.
